Leica M11 Monochrom

Leica M11 Tonal Smoothness

At high or low ISO, the same quality is seen—no gapping, no spikes, nothing like is seen with most cameras. The Leica M11 Monochrom files are as good as it gets in terms of smoothness of tones into dark areas.

EXIF info claims 16-bit samples (Bits Per Sample : 16). But it’s really only a 14-bit range because the black level of 1023 is subtracted-out.

Maximum value with the black level subtracted-out is 15295 — 14-bit and well short of the maximum value (16383) afforded by 14 bits.

Below are RawDigger histograms for the low-order bits of the 16-bit DNG files.
