Diffraction Effects

This page looks at the how diffraction affects the Leica M11 Monochrom results from f/2 through f/16, and to what extent diffraction mitigating sharpening can offset diffraction dulling (losses of sharpness and contrast).

Presented at actual pixels as well as at 2X enlargement for easy of viewing.

Crop 1

Diffraction mitigating sharpening offsets diffraction somewhat but does not restore f/8 to the quality seen at f/5.6. The shine and brilliance of the fabric of the doll at left dulls considerably at f/8 vs f/5.6, a major downgrade in brilliance.
